Love Street...

It is amazing how many "Snap Shots" we have stored away in our
hearts and souls and minds...
so many "Snap Shots" that lie tucked away in our memory vault.
Yes, there they are, clearly catalogued, carefully filed away...
and then...WHAM...
without even as much as a rap-a-tap-tap on our noggin',
they come for a visit upon our mind's eye.

It was during one of these surprise "Snap Shot" visits
that visions of Love Street--a groovy, hip nightclub in Houston, Texas--danced into my thoughts.
In a blink, I was back in high school,
riding the wave of
the end-of-the-60's-rolling-into-the-70s.
There I was,
sneaking off to Love Street on a clandestine date.
How vivid it is remembering the moment I walked into
the darkened yet psychedelically-color-charged space.
The music was loud, intoxicating...
and soon I was grooving to the beat.
It was as if my memory "Snap Shots" of Love Street
ran into my psyche,
pulled up a chair,
and played a reel of "Snap Shots" upon my eyelids.

Oh, I love it when that happens,
when those memories are awakened and begin to whisper their stories into our souls...

It was from such whisperings
that I was inspired to begin a new series of paintings...
my "Love Street" series.

I began painting on canvas
and then moved to painter's drop cloth,
creating what I imagine will become wall hangings.

Here is a glimpse into my memories
inspired by Love Street from 1970,
memories I now honor and bring to life on canvas....

Life IS good.
Cherish every second of every hour.
Love One Another.
Because as we all know,
(thanks to the Fab Four)
in the end, "the love we take
IS equal to the love we make."

Spring is Just Around the Corner, or so They Said!

Here it is...April in Western New York
...April 23rd as a matter of fact.
It is usually the time
when leaves are budding out,
blossoms are beginning to open ever so slightly,
baby birds and bunnies and
other little critters are blinking their sleepy little eyes
to view the world...
but not today, oh, no, today we have
 SNOW!
We awoke this morning to the first tiny flakes
of snow beginning to fall around 7:45 am...
...for once, the forecasters' were right!
Go figure.
Lucky for us, we had scrounged through the storage area
and located plastic tubs
to use as protective covers for the daylilies.
And so, for your viewing -
I now give you the day
as it is unfolding
atop our hill
on this April day
while the snow continues to fall.

East Aurora Art Walk & My Art Opening/Reception...yowza

I'm over-bubbling with joy.

Earlier today, I delivered
a collection of paintings
to Ashwood Artisans (www.ashwoodartisansgallery.com)
in preparation for my upcoming
art opening & reception set for May 4th.
As Diane Lehmann (the gallery owner) and I
looked through the paintings,
we discussed the various vignettes
for hanging the works,
and my joy began to bubble.

Then, I picked up a copy of the local East Aurora newspaper.
Right there, on the monthly Arts Page
was the article about my art show.
My joy bubbled and bubbled.

But, it was as I was leaving Ashwood Artisans
that Diane handed me the postcard
for the East Aurora Art Walk...
and right there...
top row...
second image from the left...
was my painting, "Cardinal in Flight"

My joy bubbled up and bubbled over and bubbled out!
I drove home
feeling deeply humbled by Gratitude.
awash in Excitement.
imbued with Joy...

I'm thinking a bubble bath
might just be the most bubble-iscious
way to top off this day!

(more of my new paintings are now posted on
the Gallery Walk on my website:

Sacred in the Ordinary, Installation #9: Mr. Fox on the Front Lawn, 4.12.12

I was dreaming, lost in a deep-deep slumber, when I heard Jack's voice, far-far away, calling me.  "Susie...(he called) I need a box...I need a box."  What?  What's wrong? my mind questioned.  Feeling groggy, I tried to figure out why he needed a box, and why he sounded so urgent.  "Was Jack hurt?" My mind screamed, "Get up...now!"  My heart leapt...

I scrambled to kick back the covers that were twisted about my body; I scrambled to find my glasses on the bedside table.  And then, I scrambled--kind of in one of those "I feel drunk" attempts to walk when waking from a dream that has been holding you under its heavy hands--out of the bedroom, down the three steps into the dining room...and there was Jack, pointing out the front windows.  He didn't look hurt...he looked excited!

I looked.  I saw. There was a Mr. Fox on our front lawn.
This is the second fox we've spied on the gentle land that slopes away from our house toward the brush line.  The other was much smaller, more reddish, and much more shy as he (or she?) remained very close to the edge of the milkweed and Multiflora rose and dogwoods.
But not this fellow.  No.
He was tracking something -- a scent of the bobbed-tail squirrel that plays in that same area?
The scent of deer urine--yeah, those guys hang out in our front lawn, too.  Or what?
I grabbed my camera and began to snap pics.
He sniffed here....
he sniffed there...
he follow that scent to the east...
to the south...
and then he stopped...and sniffed some more...
but after a short while, he must have decided that it was time to go...so he headed onward...
...and up the driveway toward the side lawn.
Isn't he a marvelous fellow?  What a sacred, sacred gift to be given so early in the morning.
I walked over to pour myself a cup of coffee, and I just smiled...
Jack wasn't yelling "I need a box"...of course not...
"I see a fox;  I see a fox!" was what he called out in excitement.
I love that man...
Funny, isn't it, how words can get so scrambled
when you are so deep into a dream.
